The Pakistan women’s national cricket team has been a regular participant in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup since its inception in 2009. Over the course of eight tournaments spanning 14 years, the team has consistently been challenged on the global stage. From their debut appearance in 2009 to their most recent campaign in 2023, Pakistan have showcased their talent, determination, and the growing strength of women’s cricket in the country.
2009, Round 1
In 2009, the first-ever edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup was hosted by England, where a total of 8 teams participated, including Pakistan. They were placed in Group B with England, Sri Lanka, and India. Pakistan showed very poor performance throughout the tournament and was unable to win any of their group-stage matches. Hence, they finished last (fourth) in the group and didn’t advance to the Semi-Final.
2010, Round 1
In 2010, the second edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup was hosted by West Indies, where a total of 8 teams participated, including Pakistan. They were placed in Group B with India, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. This year also Pakistan showed a poor performance and finished at the bottom of the table with 0 points, losing all their games.
2012, Round 1
In 2012, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was played in Sri Lanka, where a total of 8 teams participated in the prestigious tournament. Pakistan was placed in Group A with England, Australia, and India, where Pakistan consistently struggled for the third time in this tournament. They won just one match out of 3, losing to Australia and England. They won 2 points against India, but it was not sufficient to qualify for the knockout stage.
2014, Round 1
In 2014, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was held in Bangladesh, and the participation was increased to 10 teams. Pakistan was placed in Group A with Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and Ireland. Pakistan was unable to showcase their best performance, and this time also they were only able to win 1 match out of 4 and finished in fourth spot in the group table.
2016, Round 1
In 2016, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was held in India, where a total of 10 teams were divided into 2 groups and Pakistan was placed in Group B with England, West Indies, India, and Bangladesh. In this World Cup again, Pakistan yet again missed the chance of advancing to the knockouts. Out of 4 matches, they won 2 matches but finished in third position with four points.
2018, Round 1
In 2018, West Indies hosted the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Pakistan was placed in Group B, with India, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. This time as well Pakistan’s performance was not that impressive, winning only 1 match out of 4. With 2 points, they finished in fourth place in the group stage.
2020, Round 1
In 2020, Australia hosted the Women’s T20 World Cup. Pakistan was placed in Group B with South Africa, England, West Indies, and Thailand, where Pakistan won only 1 match out of 4, and 1 match was washed out. With 3 points, they finished in fourth place below the West Indies.
2023, Round 1
In 2023, South Africa hosted the Women’s T20 World Cup. Pakistan was placed in Group B with England, India, West Indies, and Ireland, where Pakistan won only 1 match out of 4. With 2 points, they finished in fourth place below the West Indies.
