Journey of Bangladesh in Women’s T20 World Cup History from 2014 to 2023

Bangladesh has steadily progressed in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup since their debut in 2014. While they initially struggled and finished at the bottom of their group, they have shown some improvement over the years. Despite facing tough competition, Bangladesh’s participation has been pivotal in developing their cricket and gaining valuable international experience.

1. 2014 – Round 1

The 2014 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the fourth edition of the competition, was held in Bangladesh. The hosts were placed in Group B alongside England, West Indies, India, and Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, they finished last in their group, winning only one out of the four matches they played. Thus, their World Cup journey came to an end.

2. 2016 – Round 1

Bangladesh participated in the 2015 Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier and secured the runners-up position, losing to Ireland by 2 wickets, which earned them qualification for the 2016 World Cup. The 2016 ICC Women’s World Twenty20, hosted by India, was the fifth edition of the tournament. In Group B, Bangladesh was grouped alongside England, West Indies, Pakistan, and India. 3. 2018 – Round 1

Bangladesh emerged victorious in the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier, defeating Ireland by 25 runs, thereby securing their place in the 2018 ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup. This sixth edition of the tournament was hosted in the West Indies and Bangladesh was placed in a group A alongside West Indies, England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. However, despite their efforts, they finished at the bottom of the table, having lost all four matches they played, thus concluding their journey in the tournament.

4. 2020 – Round 1

Bangladesh secured victory in the 2019 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, defeating Thailand by 70 runs, which earned them a spot for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. This seventh edition of the tournament took place in Australia. In Group A, Bangladesh was grouped with India, Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. Despite their efforts, they faced defeat in all four matches they played, ultimately bringing their journey in the tournament to an end.

5. 2023 – Round 1

Bangladesh clinched victory in the 2022 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, defeating Ireland by 7 runs, securing their place in the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. This eighth edition of the tournament was hosted in South Africa. Bangladesh was assigned to Group A, alongside Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. However, despite their efforts, they ended up at the bottom of the table after losing all four matches they played, thereby concluding their journey in the World Cup.
