During the first edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup in England, India’s leg spinner Priyanka Roy picked up a five-wicket haul against Pakistan. Her remarkable figures of 5/16 dismantled Pakistan’s batting line-up, making her the first woman to achieve this feat in the T20 World Cup. English pacer Anya Shrubsole experienced this as she claimed the first hat-trick in the Women’s T20 World Cup during the sixth edition in the West Indies. Deandra Dottin’s first century in the 2010 Women’s T20 World Cup was also the first century in Women’s T20I cricket. Her century came against the Proteas in the second edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup, with the West Indies as the host. Dottin scored a hundred in the opening match of the tournament, smashing seven fours and nine sixes on her way to 112 not out off 45 balls, leading the West Indies to an imposing score of 175 for five. She received the Player of the Match award following her century and also claimed a wicket in the 17-run victory over the Proteas.
First-ever 100-run Partnership in T20 World Cup – Sarah Taylor & Charlotte Edwards (113) v India, 2009
The English opening duo of Sarah Taylor and Charlotte Edwards scored an unbeaten 113-run partnership against India, who were restricted to 112/8 in their first innings. Chasing a target of 113, the English openers dismantled the Indian bowling line-up, reaching the target in 15.4 overs with 26 balls to spare. Wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor scored 50 off 41 balls, hitting seven boundaries, while then-captain Charlotte Edwards scored 61 off 53 balls, slamming six fours and two sixes. Their partnership not only resulted in a dominating win over India but was also the first-ever 100-run partnership in Women’s T20 World Cup history.
First-ever Super Over – Australia v England, 2010
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup witnessed its first-ever Super Over during the thrilling encounter between Australia and England in the 2010 tournament. England elected to bat first after winning the toss, scoring 104 runs with Sarah Taylor as their top scorer with 46 runs off 44 balls. Lisa Sthalekar was Australia’s highest wicket-taker, with three wickets for 29 runs in four overs. Chasing a modest target, Australia struggled against England’s bowlers, with Katherine Brunt, Nicky Shaw, Danielle Hazell, and Holly Colvin each taking two wickets. With eight runs required off the last over, Charlotte Edwards decided to bowl, with Rene Farrell and Clea Smith at the crease. Farrell got run out with one required off three balls, resulting in a tie. The super over also ended in a tie, with Australia setting a target of 7 runs and England scoring only six, losing both their wickets. Australia won the match based on the number of sixes scored, with Australia hitting one six in their innings and England failing to hit any.
